Philliskirk: “I’m Really Proud Of The Lads.”

27 April 2016

Youth team boss Tony Philliskirk described the three cup victories in three years as a proud achievement.

Jake Hargreaves and a double from Brendy Glackin sealed a comfortable victory as Philliskirk’s side lifted the Lancashire FA Professional Youth Cup.

Philliskirk said: "I’m really proud of the lads and it’s a fantastic achievement. It’s three cup wins in three years and the lads have really proved that they are winners.

"I think on tonight’s performance we deserved to win and that’s no disrespect to Blackpool. I thought we started well and we were disappointed to go into half time still at 0-0.

"We asked for more of the same of the lads and that’s what happened in the second half.

“Both sets of lads looked nervous at times, in particular Blackpool as I know they can play better than that.

“Credit to our lads for stopping them playing, we pressed high and limited the space they had.

"We have been challenging Jake [Hargreaves] to get more goals from midfield and to get the opener really relaxed us and set us on the way. We had chances to kill the game.”

Glackin grabbed two goals which took his tally for the season to 20 goals, but the manager believes there are still things in his game which he needs to improve.

“I thought his two finishes were very good,” Philliskirk commented. “He was very composed and passed the ball into the goal and in the end we ran out comfortable winners which was pleasing.

"We need to work on the other side of his game and he accepts that. He has got to be a team player and secure play more for us but he’s a first year and this experience will be really good for him.

“I look forward to working with him as a second year and hopefully he can get 20 goals next season too.”
