Philliskirk Reveals Personal Pride

3 March 2015

Tony Philliskirk revealed his delight at two of his youth team players featuring in the matchday squad of 18 for Saturday's game with Preston North End.

Devante Jacobs appeared as a second half substitute, replacing Brian Wilson whilst Jack Tuohy was an unused substitute in Dean Holden's first squad.

Additionally, former youth players Jordan Bove, Joel Coleman and Jack Truelove also appeared on the bench.

Philliskirk said: "Devante got 45 minutes for the first team and Tuohy, Coleman, Bove and Truelove were all on the bench so from our perspective, that is great.

"I'm under no illusions that if all the first team players were fit then that would not have been the case but it just shows what this club is about. Young players do get opportunities at this club.

"I feel personal pride when they come through and it's the same every year. The big word at youth level now is opportunity and this club provides it. The players have to be good enough, don't get me wrong, but they know if they are good enough, they will get a opportunity to progress.

"Devante has been training with the first team everyday and a lot of the other youth players have as well. Youth progression is a big part of this club and long may it continue."
