South Failsworth School To Receive Coaching Session From Management Duo

18 May 2015

New manager Darren Kelly and his assistant Dean Holden will put on a coaching session for South Failsworth Primary School who will represent Oldham Athletic at Wembley on Sunday.

The new management duo will coach the youngsters tomorrow afternoon as they take part in the Kids Cup national final just before the League One play-off final fixture between Preston North End and Swindon Town.

The children from South Failsworth will represent Oldham Athletic and take on Crawley Town on Sunday to see who are crowned winners.

South Failsworth's journey began in November, as they entered the Oldham Athletic qualifying round of the tournament, finishing top of their group and earning a place at the finals day, which was held at Chapel Road.

The finals day consisted of the eight best teams from this year’s competition who had progressed from their groups. The eight schools who qualified were: Hodgeclough, St Pauls, Rushcroft, St Johns, Thorp, Mills Hill, Greenhill and South Failsworth.

South Failsworth progressed from that stage of the competition and went on to the regional finals in Crewe to represent Oldham Athletic.

In Crewe, the eight boys faced teams from Rochdale, PNE, Port Vale, Scunthorpe United and Doncaster Rovers in the group stages of the northern finals.

Despite an early defeat to Rochdale the boys bounced back and finished second in the group with a final total of eight points with two impressive results coming against Scunthorpe United (3-0) and Doncaster Rovers (2-0).

The boys then faced Fleetwood Town in the semi-final. In what was a nervy affair which saw the game decided on penalties, it was Oldham Athletic that came away with the victory to set up a final with Crewe Alexandra.

The youngsters held their nerve to comfortably dispatch Crewe 3-0 and set up the Wembley final with Crawley Town on Sunday.

The football club would like to congratulate South Failsworth for reaching this stage of the competition and wish them the best of luck in the final.
