Tony Philliskirk Nominated For National Award

2 December 2014

Youth team boss Tony Philliskirk has been nominated for the 'Professional Game - Professional Phase Coach of the Year' award at the FA Licensed Coaches' Club Awards night.

The event is set to take place at St. George's Park this Thursday, December 4 and brings together the top coaches from around the country for a night of appreciation.

Philliskirk guided last year's youth team to second in the table and mastered victory over Blackpool in the Lancashire FA Professional Youth Cup final at Bloomfield Road.

Speaking about his nomination, Philliskirk said: "I'm humbled and surprised to be nominated for the award.

"This is the main coaching body in the country which all professional coaches in the Football League and Premier League are affiliated with and to get the call to say I've been shortlisted for the award makes me very proud.

"At our level you usually don't get nominated for things like this so I'm surprised and it is a real honour to be nominated. The Club and Youth Department must take a lot of credit for this nomination as they have supported me wholeheartedly over the years I have been here."

With the club excelling in the recent EPPP audit, Philliskirk added: "This is my 17th year at the football club now and whether they have looked at my consistency I'm not sure.

"We have got a good record at Oldham Athletic for producing home-grown players who have come through the ranks who have played for the club or have been sold on for big money.

"I'm sure the audit helped and that might be one of the reasons why the Football Association took note. I'm not expecting to win this award but just to be nominated is a real honour."
