Winchester Hopes Form Will Catch The Eye Of Northern Ireland

30 October 2015

Midfielder Carl Winchester is hoping his form at club level will earn him a call up to the Northern Ireland squad for the upcoming Euro 2016 tournament.

The midfielder, who has started to get back to his form which won him the Player of the Year award last season, admits it will be tough to get into the squad but will continue to work hard in order to get noticed.

He said: “It’s going to be tough to get into the campaign, especially for France in the summer so hopefully if I don’t make the squad for France, I can kick on to the next campaign after that and get a chance.

“I need to step it up at club level to get noticed but it’s going to be hard to get into the squad.”

Looking ahead to the game with Burton Albion tomorrow afternoon, the midfielder is expecting a tough clash but is confident.

“They are sitting third in the table and flying high but I think on our day we are capable of winning any games,” he commented.

"We showed that against Gillingham. They were sitting at the top of the league and people say we should have won it and come away with the three points but we took a point and nobody has done that this season so on our day we can beat anyone in this league.”
