PLAY-OFF BACKING VITAL - CORNEY

Posted on: Wed 09 May 2007

So here we are, ready for play-off action for the first time since 2003.

Of course, we weren't at the club when we lost to QPR to go out in the semi-finals at Loftus Road, but we'll certainly be hoping that things are different this time around.

To have the chance of getting a Wembley is fitting given the football John Sheridan has got the lads playing this season.

When you look back we've had a successful time of it during 2006/07.  Yes, there have been difficult times and the ups and downs - but that's football and you get that at any club.

I think any fan would have bitten my arm off if I'd have said to them in August that they could have been in this position come May.

OK, we were top of the league at one point, but I don't think anyone can argue that Oldham Athletic Football Club have taken strides forward this season.

We've backed John as much as we can this season and have already told this website previously that we'll be prepared to do so again.  Now we're counting on your help ahead of one of the most crucial periods in the club's recent history.

I've talked about the supporters on many occasions this season as I'm sure you know, but we really need you all to get down to Boundary Park, pack those stands and cheer on the lads.  They really do appreciate it, and you never know it could just have an effect on what is going to be a very tight first leg.

Then there's the return game of course, and we need exactly the same from those who are lucky enough to get tickets for the match at Bloomfield Road a week on Saturday.

I've been genuinely very, very pleased with the away support this season - you've done us proud and I've no reason to think why that will change in what could turn out to be one of the most important Lancashire derbies we've played for many a year.

Of course we've got the big home leg on Sunday to concentrate on first, and you the fans can play your part.  From getting decked out in blue to helping out with the big Chaddy End flag to roaring on the lads, it all helps.

You really do make a difference - let's see the blue army out in force on Sunday!

Cheers,

Simon
