Oldham Athletic Community Trust held their latest Show Racism the Red Card event at Boundary Park earlier this week.

Thirty young people from Blackshaw Lane, Greenhill, St Hilda's and St John's primary schools were VIP's for the day and attended the Corner Flag Suite at Boundary Park to see a preview of the new Show Racism the Red Card film.

They also took part in a Q&A session with a panel which included Oldham Athletic players Craig Davies and Richie Byrne and SRtRC campaign worker Gavin Sutherland.

After the showing of the film the young people were able to ask questions to Craig Davies and Richie Byrne on there experiences and views on racism.  This Q&A session was run as a competition with the best 3 questions being presented with t-shirts and the overall winner with a signed Oldham Athletic football.

The winning questions were as follows:
• In 3rd place: "If your friends was being racist would you tell them off or would you join in?"(Tamida, Greenhill School)
• In 2nd place: "What helps you get through racism?" (Rebecca, Blackshaw Lane School)
• In 1st place: "How come you don't see as many Asian people playing professional football?" (Cameron, St Hilda's School)

These questions were met with great responses from Craig and Richie as they were able to pass on their knowledge of these issues through growing up at school to playing professional football.

The young people listened well and were very excited with the whole day, as they got to meet with and speak to the players whilst being educated on the subject of racism.

James Mwale of Oldham Athletic Community Trust said: "Oldham Athletic and the Community Trust are delighted to host this event with Show Racism the Red Card.

"The campaign and events of this nature further highlight the good work going on by many organisations to eliminate racism from the game and educate young people on diversity and the positive impact that many different cultures bring to our community and the game itself."

Gavin Sutherland, Project Coordinator for Show Racism the Red Card, added: "Show Racism the Red Card are extremely pleased to have one of our first educational events with football clubs in the 2008/09 season with Oldham Athletic.  It is brilliant that the club have again given their full support to the campaign.

"We are excited to see how the audience reacts to the new SRtRC film, which is an excellent addition to our range of educational resources and will be available to schools from October onwards."
