Manager Dave Penney has admitted he will probably have to sign a new striker in a bid to end Latics' goalscoring blues.

Latics have failed to find the net in their last three matches and, overall, have fired blanks in 16 of their 31 matches in Coca-Cola League One.

They have the worst goalscoring record in their division - a meagre 24 goals in 31 matches - which is why Penney is looking for new options up front.

Penney said: "We are always looking for players and we probably need to freshen things up front and bring in somebody who can score goals.

"If we are to win games and pick up points we have to score goals, and that has been a problem for much of the season."

The Latics manager admitted that March will be a make-or-break month with all six matches against teams in the bottom half of the table.

"Four of the next six games are at home against teams who are in and around us as are the away games at Exeter and Stockport. This is the month which will decide where we end up," he concluded.
