Latics will be aiming to inflict another dose of the away-day blues on visitors Gillingham on Saturday.
Manager Dave Penney wants to pile on the misery for the Gills who have yet to win away this season following 19 failed attempts.
But the Kent side has drawn at Stockport and Charlton on their last two away days and are unbeaten in their last four matches, though they remains on the same points total as Latics.
Penney said: "We try not to worry about their record and results - it is about what we do - though it is a massive match.
"We keep saying these games are six pointers, but the facts are this is a chance to move above them in the table.
"It is a big three points, though at the end of the day it is only three points."
The Latics manager was pleased with the spirit his players showed against Brentford, especially the fight they displayed after falling 3-1 behind and so nearly salvaging a point.
"The positive thing is that the players kept going to the last minute. We scored a second goal, had some other great chances and their keeper made some great saves," he explained.
Penney could not fault Latics' attacking play against Brentford and the goalscoring form of Pawel Abbott and wing play of Chris Taylor (pictured).
The Latics manager described Taylor's display against the Bees as his best for a long time while Abbott continued his goalscoring spree with two goals to make it four in his last four appearances.
Penney said: "We have to make sure we get the ball wide to Chris and young Kirk (Millar) which is our strength.
"We need to get to the by-line to get balls into the box where Pawel is scoring goals again ands Lewis (Guy) is a threat just behind him unsettling defenders."
But the Latics manager was unhappy with his side's defensive display and the goals conceded after making basic errors.
"We seem to have got the attacking side right, but we keep letting in silly goals," explained Penney who added they need to quickly get things right at both ends of the pitch.
Penney added it is about achieving consistency which was been a major problem in recent months, though he says he was relatively pleased with the performances of most players against Brentford.
The Latics manager added that it is important fans keep behind the team by creating a "positive atmosphere" which he says will filter througth to the players.
Penney believes the recent hostility is bound to affect some of the younger and less experienced players.
"The more positive the atmosphere we can get, it will obviously be better for the players," he explained.
