Latics' strong finish to the season has resulted in Dave Penney being shortlisted for the Coca-Cola League One manager-of-the-month award for April.

Latics have banished the threat of relegation to climb to 15th place as a mid-table finish is now a distinct possibility.

Penney is in competition with Southampton's Alan Pardew, Huddersfield's Lee Clark and Gary Waddock, from Wycombe Wanderers, for the honour which will be announced on Gillette Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports tomorrow from noon.

The Latics manager has deflected praise from himself declaring: "It is the players who have got us out of the position we found ourselves with three wins and three draws.

"It has been a tough month, but one which we have all enjoyed."
