Latics boss John Sheridan is expecting a tough test against Sean O'Driscoll's Doncaster in the First Round of The FA Cup sponsored by E.ON tomorrow (KO 3pm).

Sheridan will be hoping to better his side's efforts last time around, when they took Championship outfit Wolves to a Third Round Replay after a 2-2 draw at Molineux.

Kettering and King's Lynn were dispatched along the way, but Athletic exited the competition courtesy of a 2-0 Replay defeat at Boundary Park.

Doncaster travel across the M62 with one win under Latics already under their belts -- a 3-0 victory in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

The Latics boss will welcome back midfielder Richie Wellens, who makes his first trip back to Boundary Park since making the switch the Keepmoat Stadium in the summer.

Sheridan is under no illusions of the test Doncaster will provide -- notwithstanding their mercurial midfielder.

Shez said: "Richie will be looking forward to coming back here -- he's a player I've got a lot of time for as a lad and as a footballer.

"This will be a different game to the one at their place recently and will require a different approach from the players.  For me, Doncaster are the best footballing side in the division and have players who take care of the ball.

"They move it around quickly and on the deck most of the time, and we'll have to deal with that.  It's sure to be a very tough game.

"We can win it if we get at them, and if we do so I am confident we will go through.  The Johnstone's Paint Trophy game was a funny one because we should have been ahead and were the better team for an hour.  But once they scored the first goal they were the better side -- they are very good at keeping the ball when they're ahead and they did so that night.

"We matched them comfortably for sixty minutes, and hopefully we can do that again but score a few goals this time."

Latics go into the game on a high following the 1-0 win at Tranmere, but Sheridan has again highlighted the need for consistency as his side look to put a run of results together.

And there's no better stage on which do that than the FA Cup, the world's oldest cup contest and a competition revered by Sheridan as a player:

He said: "The team's doing okay at the moment and we've produced three decent performances against teams who are doing well.  I know we can match teams, but it's all about consistency and it's no good winning one and then going on to lose two.

"If we carry on playing like we are at the minute we'll win more than we lose, though.

"I loved the FA Cup when I was a player because it always gave us a bit of a buzz.  But the main thing is to get through the tie no matter what as I want to get as far as we can.  Plus if we get the win it's another under our belts and that'll give the lads confidence."
