Manager John Sheridan has been left with a selection headache ahead of Saturday's FA Cup tie with Crewe Alexandra.

Regular left-back Ryan Bertrand has been denied permission to play in the competition by parent club Chelsea, leaving a vacancy in the back line.

Chris Taylor deputised in the 2-1 win at Doncaster in midweek -- as he did in the original tie -- and impressed once again as Latics kept things tight against in-form opposition.

But Kelvin Lomax is now back in contention after a technicality relating to his loan spell at Rochdale rendered him ineligible for the original game.

Lomax is comfortable in either full-back berth, but has made only a single appearance this season.

Sheridan is keeping his cards close to his chest, but did reveal that he was re-assessing the situation ahead of the game:

"Kelvin is available on Saturday, and he'll be in the squad and there if I need him," he told Latics World.

"I will have to look at the situation.  I did change my team in midweek to nullify Doncaster and it worked, but this is a different game and we're at home.

"I've got to have a look at things on Saturday because we will be going out to try and win the game."
