SHERIDAN: WE WON'T LIE DOWN
John Sheridan says his Latics side will definitely not be treating tomorrow's game at Crewe as an end-of-season exercise.
Athletic go into the game with nothing but pride to play for, whereas the Railwaymen are still in danger of relegation.
Depending on other results, Steve Holland's men may have to secure a point to make sure of their League One status next season.
Bournemouth go to Carlisle as they look to pull off an all-time classic escape, while Cheltenham and Gillingham are also in the mix.
"It will certainly be a good footballing contest," Sheridan mused.
"We are looking to as finish as high as possible and we can still end up eighth if we win and other results go for us.
"We'll have a decent following there and we want to go out in style and give them something to cheer about."
And Sheridan has no doubt as to where the hosts' main threat is likely to come from.
"In Nicky Maynard Crewe have one of the best strikers in this division," he said.
"Unfortunately he gets a few injuries - if he didn't he would definitely be amongst the top scorers in this division this season.
"On their day we know Crewe are amongst the most dangerous teams in this league, and we all know they like to play football the right way.
"They've struggled a little this season but they will be taking the game to us in an attempt to get the point they need."
Although the club have sold the initial allocation of 700 tickets sent to the club for pre-sales, 1,000 tickets remain and can be purchased on the day at the away ticket office at the Alexandra Stadium.
