SHERIDAN: "A GOOD DAY'S WORK"
John Sheridan praised his side's team performance after Chris Taylor's double handed Athletic maximum points at Leeds United.
Taylor struck with a close-range header ten minutes after the break before curling home from the edge of the box to secure the points just after the hour.
World TV: Shez delighted after Elland Road win
Latics out-battled a Leeds side installed as early favourites for the title, earning three points which Sheridan considered to be a just reward.
"It was an excellent team performance throughout and we thoroughly deserved to win," he said.
"Leeds came at us for the first 15 minutes but I thought we controlled the game for long spells after that and caused them problems, especially on the break.
"There were lots of good individual performances but I look at the team as a whole and they were excellent to a man today."
And Sheridan was delighted for match-winner Chris Taylor, who weighed in with both goals after scoring the winner against Millwall.
"I'm pleased Chris got on the scoresheet - his first goal was actually more pleasing than the second," he revealed.
"Chris was in the right area and took a chance, and it's paid off for him. He responded well after Lee's touch and was in the right place at the right time."
Over 1,000 Latics fans travelled to Elland Road to see a classic derby win - and the boss felt they certainly got their money's worth!
"I know how much the fans had to pay to get in today but I think they'd have paid fifty quid to watch that game and celebrate," he said.
"The joy on their faces at the end said it all - a good day's work all round."
Now the Boundary Park chief is urging his side to stay focused and maintain their good start to the campaign, adding:
"The main thing is we've got off to a good start, unlike the last two seasons. Now we need to carry on this run and the more points we can get on the board as soon as possible the better.
"We've got three points here today but that's gone now. I've told the lads to enjoy the weekend and come in fresh on Monday to start the hard work ahead of the Cheltenham game."
