Manager John Sheridan has praised Darren Byfield's performance after the new boy debuted in the 1-0 win over Northampton.

Byfield looked dangerous up front alongside Lee Hughes and can consider himself unlucky not to have walked away with a goal.

The 32-year-old has arrived on a month's loan from Doncaster Rovers and has already said he would like to extend the deal.

Shez said: "Darren played well on Saturday, especially considering he'd only met the lads in the hotel before the game.

"He worked really hard and I'm sure his pace and work rate will be an asset to the team.

"He gives us a bit more pace and competition and we've got a good mix of strikers at the club, giving us some variation up front."
