Brighton found themselves homeless after a previous board of directors sold the old Goldstone Ground for redevelopment in 1997, and Seagulls fans then had to endure a 140-mile round trip to Priestfield, Gillingham for home games.
That arrangement lasted for two years until the club moved into the current Withdean Stadium in 1999. A 22,500-capacity stadium at Falmer, on the onskirts of Brighton, was ok'd by Council chiefs in 2002, but has been shrouded in uncertainty since.
Following legal wrangling, John Prescott rubber-stamped the plans in 2005 only for opponents to launch another legal bid, and the final decision now lies with Government minister Ruth Kelly.
She has pledged to deliver her verdict before July 9.
The stadium currently holds 8,850 spectators within one permanent and three temporary stands, with the pitch surrounded by an athletics track.
Fans should note that there is strictly no parking within two miles of the ground, and that alcohol is not served within the stadium.
GETTING THERE - BY CAR (FROM THE NORTH WEST)
Take your preferred route to join the M6, branching off onto the toll road at junction 11A.
Join the M42 at the end of the toll road, then keep left at junction 7A to continue on the M42.
Leave the M42 at junction 3A to join the M40 (signposted London, Warwick, Stratford), before leaving the M40 at junction 1A to join the M25 (signposted Heathrow Airport).
Continue along the M25 before exiting at junction 7 to join the M23 (signposted Gatwick Airport, Crawley).
Continue forward on the M23, which then becomes the A23. Follow the A23 as you enter Brighton, then take left onto Tongdean Lane, a right onto Withdean Road and a left back onto Tongdean Lane for the ground.
BY TRAIN
Brighton is served by three London rail stations, Euston, King's Cross and London Bridge, and is around a two-hour journey away from the capital.
However, the nearest station to the ground isn't the mainline one but is in fact Preston Park, which is an eight-minute train ride from the main Brighton station.
Preston Park is located around fifteen minutes' walk from the ground.

WHERE TO PARK
Due to matchday restrictions, there is no parking available anywhere within two miles of the ground. However, a Park and Ride scheme is available around a mile north of the stadium, just off the main road.
Fans are asked to note that their match ticket includes a park and ride ticket for either the train or the bus.
WHERE TO EAT AND DRINK
The Sportsman (to the rear of the North Stand) is convenient but busy, while the football-friendly Preston Brewery Tap is located on the main A23.
There are also the usual pubs and bars you'd expect from a major holiday destination, including a concentration of public houses around Brighton mainline station.
