DUXBURY: RESERVES MUST LISTEN
Reserve team boss Lee Duxbury urged his side to listen after they went down 2-1 at Manchester City in midweek.
Karl Moore's double proved enough for the hosts, despite winger Ross Thaker pulling a goal back in the second half.
But the damage had already been done by the time Thaker struck, and Duxbury told oldhamathletic.co.uk his young side -- who are learning all the time against experienced opposition -- need to pay attention to their game plan.
"We had a young side out again, and had to do without the experience of JP Kalala, who was poorly," he revealed.
"We were poor in the first half as no-one was getting close to City. That was disappointing because I told the players before they game that they don't like hefty challenges and people getting in their faces.
"We did that after the break and won the second half 1-0. I said at full time that the information I give to the players is given for a reason. It's just inexperience and I have to keep telling them, but it's just basic things and common sense, really.
"But people like Danny Knight and Paul Black did very well again, while Josh Bell did well, especially after the break. So there's some positives -- but our second half was a lot better than the first."
