The return of Jon Worthington to the Latics squad wasn't able to breathe life into a tie that was mired in a midfield scrap and dogged by a stiff autumn breeze.
Athletic named an unchanged side for the second successive game, Michael McKerr joining Worthington on the substitute's bench, for the first time this season.
Before the game Latics Captain Sean Gregan was named Player of the Month for September, collecting his award from sponsors Spindles Shopping Centre.
Yeovil, as expected, named three former Latics players in their starting line up in the form of Captain Terrell Forbes, midfielder JP Kalala and loanee striker Craig Davis.
It took Yeovil 20 minutes to create a noteworthy chance, when a cross from the right by Lindegaard was met by the head of Tomlin.
His effort went comfortably over the bar, when he should really have hit the target, but provided a stark warning to Athletic about the threat posed by the Glovers.
Dean Furman's determination to try and run the game saw Kalala booked on 25 minutes, for a clumsy challenge on half way. Furman had on several occasions tried to put his foot on the ball and dictate the play, bringing a succession of rough challenges, before Kalala was eventually booked.
Despite Furman's efforts the game remained a disjointed affair, before Keigan Parker spurned the best chance of the game, after half an hour.
A sublime ball over the Town back line by Abbott released him beyond Caulker, one-on-one with McCathy, but as the Scott raced towards goal, and with the 'keeper closing in, he fired wide.
It was a poor miss from Parker and almost proved costly, as a minute later Craig Davis had the ball in the Athletic net.
A scramble on the Athletic goal line saw the ball bounce to the former Latics forward, only for him to inexplicably punch the ball into the goal, when heading it seemed a perfectly viable option.
Boss Dave Penney had seen enough of the frustrating, scrappy, midfield play and changed the Athletic system with 5 minutes remaining in the half, pushing Chris Taylor into a more attacking position alongside Abbott and Parker.
It almost provided an immediate return, when a deflected cross from Parker, after good build up from Taylor on the Latics right, forced McCarthy to tip the ball over.
Another flowing Athletic move a minute later again could have produced a goal, Taylor released in behind the Town defence only to see his shot parried by McCarthy, the ball bouncing back to the winger.
Frustratingly for Athletic another chance went begging, Taylor only able to lift the ball over the bar from an awkward height.
Jon Worthington replaced Kelvin Lomax at half time, the right back suffering from severe migraine like symptoms, causing the club doctor to send him to the Royal Oldham Hospital for additional, precautionary, tests.
Worthington made his mark on the game after just twelve minutes of the half when he was booked for a robust challenge on Jones, manager Dave Penney taking the opportunity to replace Dean Furman with Joe Colbeck, as Athletic struggled to find a foothold in the game.
A terribly scrappy game was failing to produce clear chances for either side and despite several Athletic players finding themselves in good positions poor decision making failed to produce chances on goal.
Despite not taking maximum points from the game, Athletic extended their unbeaten run to four games and including three clean sheets.
