PHILLISKIRK JOINS PREM GIANTS
Fledgling striker Danny Philliskirk has joined Premiership giants Chelsea, oldhamathletic.co.uk can exclusively reveal.
The 16-year-old star -- son of Latics' youth team coach Tony -- has been courted by a number of big clubs in recent weeks, and now makes the move south after Blues boss Jose Mourinho (pictured) swooped.
Athletic and Chelsea have decided not to reveal the terms of the deal, but it promises to be potentially-lucrative for John Sheridan's side.
Indeed, oldhamathletic.co.uk confirmed that Mourinho has agreed to look into sending some of his young starlets to Boundary Park on loan to gain experience.
Philliskirk signed scholarship terms with Latics several weeks ago after impressing in the Centre of Excellence setup, and has already made a handful of youth team appearances.
The youngster has signed a four-year deal, consisting of a two-year scholarship and a further two years on full professional contract.
Commenting on the deal, Chief Executive / Director Alan Hardy said:
"We're delighted for Danny -- he is joining a massive club with fantastic resources which will help him develop his game.
"Talking with Tony [Philliskirk], I know he has been impressed with the facilities. Danny has four years of security and time is now on his side to develop into an excellent player.
"Also, we may have an opportunity of taking him on loan at some stage."
