John Sheridan has praised Matty Wolfenden after the striker played a vital role in Saturday's 3-2 win over Crewe.

Shez mixed things up by throwing Wolfenden on for Michael Ricketts in the last quarter of an hour, and the speedy frontman had been on the pitch for only five minutes when he headed an equaliser.

During his time as boss of first the youth and then the reserve teams, Sheridan has watched Wolfenden make a goalscoring rise through the ranks.  Now he's backing the youngster to carry on making waves, and has urged him to learn from one of the top strikers in the English game:

"Wolfy's always a threat when he's on the pitch and he will always create chances," he said.  "He's done it at youth and reserve level, and he's a quiet lad who's very level-headed and knows what he wants from life -- there's nothing wrong with that.

"He's a little terrier and he'll battle with whoever, and I've been telling him to look at Michael Owen and learn from him.  Matty will always score goals and he did very well for his goal on Saturday with a glancing header.  He knew what he was doing and got us back into the game."
