On-loan striker Brett Ormerod has returned to Preston North End after picking up an injury in the run-up to the FA Cup tie at Cheltenham.

The ex-Southampton man was included in the squad for the Whaddon Road clash but reported a problem during Thursday morning's session.

Hospital scans revealed a broken toe, and the club took the decision not to release this information until after the game with Martin Allen's side.

Ormerod has now returned to Deepdale until his loan period expires in order to undergo treatment on the injury.

The frontman made a total of two starts and three substitute appearances after arriving on a month-long deal in mid-October.
