Young people who have been regularly attending Oldham Athletics' Kickz project will be attending tonight's game against Walsall at Boundary Park.

Participants who have attended football coaching sessions at Grange Astroturf pitch on Tuesday nights between 7pm and 9:30pm will have the opportunity to see the Latics' first team in action.

As part of the scheme, participants are rewarded for their attendance to sessions and as a result Oldham Athletic have kindly offered tickets to tonight's match to Kickz participants.

Oldham Athletic Community Trust has just been recently successful in being awarded a Kickz project, which is located in the Coldhurst area.  Kickz is a nationally-recognised football inclusion project which is funded by the football foundation. The Oldham Athletic Kickz project works with local partners such as the Police, Groundworks, OCLL, Sports Development, Barnardos, Millennium Centre and Youth Service.

The main aims of the project are to engage with young people aged between 12 and 18 year old in a range of constructive activities, reduce anti-social behavior and break down barriers between young people and the police, increase playing, coaching and officiating opportunities for participants, and to encourage volunteering.

The Kickz programme runs over three nights, two of which are football sessions based at Grange all-weather pitch and OBA Millennium Centre, and one of which is a flexible activity based at Robinhill youth centre where participants have already created a Kickz code of conduct.

Inclusion and Kickz coordinator James Mwale said: "This is the first outing that we have had as a group to come and watch Latics play.

"It's great to be able to offer opportunities like this through Kickz as most of these young people have never been to see Oldham Athletic play and they are very excited about going to the match."
