One young Latics fan has booked his place to represent the club in the final of the Football League's young reporter competition.
In association with the Oldham Evening Chronicle, oldhamathletic.co.uk ran a special competition inviting all budding journalists to submit a report on a Latics game.
The competition was introduced as part of the Football League's Fans of the Future scheme, designed to encourage more young supporters to engage with the game.
Our judges whittled down the entries and eventually settled on 10-year-old Christopher Bradford, of Slattocks. He impressed with his account of the 2-0 win over MK Dons earlier in the season.
Christopher will enjoy a special VIP day out at a forthcoming home game and will be presented with a signed Latics shirt on the pitch.
His entry will also be submitted to the Football League for consideration for the overall prize - the chance to report on a senior game at Wembley.
Here's his winning report below...
The game kicks off with both sides getting early touches of the ball and a tough encounter looks on the cards.
The first main action results in a goal for Latics as an Oldham break down the centre saw Dons keeper Willy Gueret come off his line to try and narrow the angle on striker Lee Hughes.
This doesn't put Hughes off as he chips the ball over the emerging Gueret to put Athletic one up. Moments later and Latics have a chance to increase their lead but Hughes skies the ball over the bar.
In the 14th minute Latics conceded a penalty. Sean Gregan the offender as he handled in the area. The penalty is saved superbly by goalkeeper Mark Crossley.
Two minutes later there is controversy as the Dons have the ball in the back of the net but their celebrations are cut short by the linesman's flag.
The Dons should have drawn level five minutes later when from a long clearance by Gueret striker Aaron Wilbraham fired his shot over the bar from four yards. A nominee for Miss of the Season I'm afraid.
The half time whistle sounds and Oldham have the one goal advantage going into the break. The Dons make one change for the second half with Donal McDermott coming on for Mark Wright.
Neal Eardley goes close for Latics with a screamer which produced an exquisite save from French stopper Willy Gueret...it could have easily been 2-0 to the Latics.
Play is stopped when the referee pulls a muscle in his leg. When play was resumed, home boy Taylor came agonisingly close with a good attempt.
At this stage the could could go either way before Allott wraps it up for Latics as he curls the ball into the bottom corner leaving Dons keeper Gueret with no chance.
The final whistle sounds, leaving Oldham top of the table with a three-point advantage as Leicester and Carlisle both lost their encounters!
Final Score: Oldham Athletic 2 Milton Keynes Dons 0
