PREVIEW: CAPITAL TASK FOR SHEZ

Posted on: Fri 27 Feb 2009

It's already being billed as a play-off six-pointer, and tomorrow's clash between Athletic and Millwall at the New Den could certainly have an impact on how things finish this season.

Both clubs currently occupy a play-off position, with Millwall sitting in fourth place with Athletic just a point and a single position behind.

The Lions will doubtless be out for revenge following Latics' last-gasp win on the opening day of the season.  Tresor Kandol scored after only 13 seconds, but the hosts stormed back to win 4-3 from a 3-1 deficit.

Kenny Jackett's men have won on nine occasions at home this season but have taken just a point from their last three home outings.

But they got back on track in midweek as Karl Henry, Ashley Grimes and Mark Laird all netted in a 3-1 win away at struggling Cheltenham Town.

Sheridan must make a decision on which of his loanees to play - the club currently have seven temporary players but only five of those can be named in the matchday squad.

Chelsea youngster Fabio Ferreira hasn't been included in the travelling party, so one of Seb Hines, Scott Golbourne, Daniel Jones, Steven Kabba, Dean Windass or Jan Budtz will miss out.

Kabba should make his debut after Sheridan confirmed that the Watford striker would play some part in the game.  But Mark Crossley (back) and Matty Wolfenden (thigh) remain sidelined.

Millwall will be without Vicent Pericard after the on-loan striker was ruled out for the rest of the season.  Boss Jackett must contend with a lengthy injury list, as Chris Hackett, Alan Dunne, Lewis Grabban, Paul Robinson, Danny Spiller, Marcus Bignot and Danny Senda are all absent.

Adam Bolder faces a fitness test, but there's better news for the Lions regarding Gary Alexander, who may come back into contention.

Commentary is live and exclusive on Latics World with Gordon Lawton and Roy Butterworth from 2.55pm.

Latics (from): Fleming, Budtz, Eardley, Golbourne, Windass, Stam, Whitaker, Allott, Hughes, Kabba, Lomax, Hazell, Maher, Gregan, Taylor, Jones, Liddell, Hines, Smalley, Alessandra.
