I'm here to stay - that was the message to Latics fans from striker Dean Windass as he scotched rumours of an imminent departure.

An internet blog ghost-written for Windass suggested the on-loan Hull man had quit the club - but the player insists rumours of his Latics demise are greatly exaggerated.

Windass - who recently scored his 200th League goal - has moved to set the record straight and insists he is fully focused on the club's play-off push, starting with the game against Colchester this weekend.

"I am annoyed that people have written that I was going to leave the club when that isn't the case," he told Latics World.

"I came out and said that I was disappointed I didn't play on Monday; I'm a passionate man and I want to play football.

"I'm disappointed that this situation has come about but I can't stop people saying things in the press.

"Of course I am disappointed I'm not playing but that's the way things are and my main concern is getting Oldham Athletic into the play-offs.

"The quote has been blown out of all proportion.  I am disappointed with what's been said in the press but as far as I am concerned the matter is finished."

Windass was in for training yesterday and will undergo final preparations alongside the rest of the squad today ahead of the game against the U's.
