Manager Joe Royle has confirmed that striker Lee Hughes will not travel with the squad tomorrow ahead of Saturday's game at Leyton Orient.

Hughes, 32, is Latics' top scorer this season but Royle has already stated his intention to explore different options and will begin that process on Saturday.

Speaking exclusively to oldhamathletic.co.uk after training, Royle said: "I know what Lee can do and I want to give the younger players a chance.

"I suspect Deane Smalley is better employed up front and I want to see more of Steven Kabba.  There is no point in taking Lee to sit on the bench in London.

"It is unlikely Lee will be here next season as we cannot afford him."

Kabba and Smalley will battle with Lewis Alessandra for a place up front as Latics face Geraint Williams' O's at the Matchroom Stadium this weekend.
