Latics can still have a massive say on the relegation battle as they head to Brighton & Hove Albion's Withdean Stadium tomorrow (KO 3pm).
The Seagulls are mired in 22nd place in League One and will be desperate for a win tomorrow which could potentially move them to within a point of safety.
Russell Slade's side have a game in hand over their relegation rivals, and the extra match could prove crucial in determining the south coast club's fortunes.
Slade has won three, drawn one and lost six of his 10 games since taking over at the Withdean Stadium following the departure of Micky Adams.
His cause hasn't been helped by a League-worst home record of 11 defeats, six draws and four wins so far, with 28 goals scored and 39 conceded.
But a precious 1-0 win at Colchester on Easter Monday has given the Seagulls - who have won each of their last two away games - a real chance of maintaining League One status for next year.
Joe Royle will again go with Greg Fleming (pictured) in goal and Mark Crossley in reserve, as Shane Supple has returned to Ipswich for a scan on a knee injury.
Kelvin Lomax returned from a dead leg this week, but he hasn't been included in the squad to make the trip to the south coast this afternoon.
Elsewhere, Daniel Jones returns following a one-match ban, while Deane Smalley has shrugged off a hip problem and is fit to make the trip.
Another player who could be involved is Ian Westlake, who has recovered from a concussion in time to potentially face his former club.
In the Brighton camp, Gary Dicker seems to have shaken off his dead leg sustained in the 1-0 win at Colchester; the on-loan Stockport midfielder did some light work this morning and is set to train fully today.
Andrew Whing is suffering from slight tendonitis in his knee, but is expected to be fine to face Latics, who will come head-to-head with striker Craig Davies for the first time since he moved south in January.
Slade's squad is boosted by the return of midfielders Jason Jarrett - formerly of Athletic - and Chris Birchall, who have overcome illness, however Al Bangura remains unavailable after contracting chicken pox.
Meanwhile, Colin Hawkins and Adam Hinshelwood got some much needed match action for the reserves on Wednesday.
Glenn Murray has had a further operation to repair a stomach tear and is aiming for a return by the end of the season, but Nicky Forster (knee) and Jim McNulty (kidney) are both ruled out.
