BOSS EXCITED BY NEW KEEPER
Dave Penney says new keeper Dean Brill can be a big hit at Boundary Park after the ex-Luton keeper signed on today.
Brill moves north on a two-year deal after making more than 100 appearances for his home-town Hatters, including a Johnstone's Paint Trophy win at Wembley last season.
And his new boss insists Latics can reap the rewards of Brill's potential, which has seen him targeted by top-flight sides in the past.
"Dean was being tipped for the Premier League a couple of years ago," said Penney, who is chasing a further two new signings.
"His career has stood still a little since but I'm confident he can kick start things here. He has the quality and he has the right attitude.
"Dean is a player who has played at Championship and League One level and at 23 he's the right age to progress and continue getting better.
"Andy [Collett, goalkeeping coach] has plenty to work with and I expect Dean and Greg [Fleming] to fight for the number one spot.
"Our recruitment efforts are ongoing and hopefully we will see more action again soon."
