HASNEY HEADS HOME
New-signing Hasney Aljofree makes a quicker-than-anticipated return to Swindon Town tomorrow with Latics for their Coca-Cola League One fixture.
It is less than one week since the 31-year-old defender left the County Ground for Boundary Park after having his contract cancelled.
Aljofree said: "When I came here and looked at the fixture list, that one popped up straightaway. It is strange how things like this happen in football.
"Obviously it is a nice touch to go back as I still have a lot of friends and strong ties at Swindon."
Aljofree still has a home in Swindon which, ironically, he has rented out to Alan Sheehan, the left back who had a loan spell with Latics from Leeds earlier in the season.
It is no surprise to Aljofree that Swindon are challenging strongly for promotion in League One.
He said: "Danny Wilson has moulded a fantastic team and has achieved the right blend, a mixture of youth and experience. He has done well and long may it continue for him....but only after tomorrow's match as I am now an Oldham Athletic player.
"It is a massive match for us, regardless of who we are playing against. After the game I will shake hands and speak to my friends but, come the game, is all about getting three points for Oldham."
Aljofree has pinpointed Swindon's in-form front two of Billy Paynter and Charlie Austin, who have scored 27 goals between them, as the main threat to Latics.
He continued: "They have blended well and the connection between the two of them has been superb. And it has been the goals from those two which has pushed Swindon up the table.
"Usually if you have one striker scoring regularly, you are doing well. But when you have two, you have a great chance."
Aljofree has been impressed with Austin who only became a regular in the team in Novemberr having been signed from non-league Poole Town last summer.
"The day Charlie arrived, he was a nervous little kid. He is still raw, but he has worked hard and taken his chance," he said.
Aljofree also believes new Swindon striker Vicent Pericard, who has played for the likes of Juventus, Portsmouth and Stoke, will be a welcome addition having joined them last month from Carlisle.
"He is a big, strong guy and he will give Swindon another option up front, and I am sure you will see him come good for Swindon in the next few weeks," he continued.
Aljofree pinpoints midfield man Jonathan Douglas, signed from Leeds last summer, as a pivotal figure in Swindon's success saying he has been head and shoulders above everyone.
After viewing Latics' win at Tranmere from the bench, Aljofree was impressed with what he saw.
He said: "I think you saw a great togetherness and strength between the lads on the pitch and that helped see us through the game which was a relegation scrap.
"I was impressed by how well organised we were, and we also tried to play the game the right way and ground out a 1-0 win because Tranmere is a horrible place to go to.
"We need to take belief from that win as I thought we did fantastically well to come away with three points."
