COLBECK - BEST IS YET TO COME

Posted on: Fri 19 Feb 2010

Winger Joe Colbeck has shown exciting glimpses of form as a substitute in Latics' last two league matches.

But manager Dave Penney believes fans have yet to see the best of the 23-year-old who was signed from Bradford City in August.

Colbeck, who has made 20 first-team appearances for Latics opening his scoring account at Swindon, provides a challenge to Deane Smalley and Chris Taylor who play out wide.

Penney said: "It is great to have Joe and Deane fighting for the same position on the right while he can also play on the left if needed.

"He needs to keep progressing. I feel he is settling at the club now he has been here six months.

"It has probably taken him longer than we though to settle, but there is still a lot more to come from him.

"He has the pace and raw talent to go past full backs and all that he needs is to be more consistent and have a better game awareness.

"Joe is only a young boy and it is a step up from Bradford to a different league, He is learning all the time."
