Alex Marrow replaced the injured Jim Goodwin at right-back for Latics' Coca-Cola League One match this afternoon at Colchester United.
Goodwin did not make the trip to the Weston Homes Community Stadium after straining a thigh muscle in training.
Marrow won a recall, the only change from the starting line up against Walsall last Saturday as Latics looked to build on a run of two wins from their last three matches against the third-placed U's.
Missing from the bench was Danny Whitaker who was ruled out through illness.
Colchester had three changes from their midweek win at Yeovil with John White, Kayode Odejayi and Magnus Okuonghae all ruled out through injury.
Phil Ifil and Danny Batth came into the defence with Steven Gillespie given a starting spot up front. Top scorer Kevin Lisbie, who has missed the last four matches through injury, returned on the bench.
