LUCKY 13 FOR BUNN

Posted on: Wed 03 Mar 2010

Frank Bunn's six goals for Latics against Scarborough has been voted the 13th most special moment in the history of the League Cup.

The striker smashed the competition's goalscoring record in the 7-0 victory against Scarborough en route to reaching the final at Wembley in 1989/90 season.

Bunn was nominated as one of 'The Top 50 League Cup Moments' a feature to mark the 50th anniversary of the competition.

Fans voted for their top moment from the list of nominees and Bunn finished in 13th place.

Bunn was eclipsed by Latics manager Dave Penney whose feat in helping Doncaster reach the quarter finals in 2005 was voted into fifth place.

Doncaster defeated Manchester City and Aston Villa and only bowed out following a penalty-shootout defeat to Arsenal in the last eight.

Former Latics player/manager John Sheridan's match-winning goal for Sheffield Wednesday against Manchester United in the 1991 final finished in ninth place in the poll.

First place went to Dennis Tueart who scored a spectacular overhead kick winner for Manchester City in the 1976 final win against Newcastle which clinched City's last piece of silverware.
