PAUL'S LONG-DISTANCE TRIP

Posted on: Mon 08 Mar 2010

Latics were staggered by the support they received at Exeter where they had a 393 strong following who had made the 500-mile plus round trip.

The fact that Latics had last played at St James' Park in 1992 was pinpointed as one of the reasons for the larger-than-anticipated turnout as many fans would never previously have been to the ground.

When it comes to loyal support, Paul Dixon deserves special mention for his epic journey to Devon.

Paul, who used to report on Latics' matches for the Oldham Advertiser, now lives in Fraserburgh in North East Scotland.

His trip to Devon involved a drive to Aberdeen and a flight to Exeter with a change at Leeds/Bradford airport as well as an overnight stay as there was no connecting flights back on Saturday night.

Keeper Dean Brill paid tribute to the supporters saying: "We had a brilliant away following at Exeter and the way they got behind us was terrific.

"I know I speak for all the players when I say how much we appreciate it."
