Latics are looking to sign a striker after new loan-player Daniel Nardiello's home debut was ended by injury.

Nardiello, who has been borrowed from Championship club Blackpool for the remainder of the season, was taken from the pitch on a stretcher.

It was later disclosed Nardiello has damaged a hamstring, though medical staff have yet to assess its severity.

Manager Dave Penney has already written Nardiello out of his plans for Saturday's home game against Wycombe believing he will be out for at least seven to ten days with such an injury.

The injury came little over 24 hours after striker Jason Price returned to Millwall following a loan spell while front men Keigan Parker (groin) and Ryan Brooke (hamstring) are also on the casualty list.

And the shortage of strikers is likely to force Penney into the transfer market to strenghen his squad. He had already made a move for one player before Nardiello was injured.

Parker and Brooke could be back on Saturday along with Jim Goodwin, another loan man, who has been out for five matches through a thigh-muscle strain.

Dean Furman was also an absentee against Leyton Orient with a knee injury sustained at Exeter on Saturday.

It was feared the midfield man had damaged a cartilage, but a scan on his knee has given him the all-clear and he could be back to play against Wycombe.
