Latics teenager Phillip McGrath has been dealt a new injury blow.

The 17-year-old trainee damaged his right ankle early in Wednesday's reserve-team win at Morecambe.

McGrath hurt his right ankle in a 50/50 tackle and the joint is too swollen for an x-ray or scan to take place.

It is hoped the swelling will reduce over the weekend and further tests can be carried out early next week to discover the extent of the damage.

The Northern Ireland under-19 international is currently on crutches with his ankle in a protective boot.

The injury is the latest setback for McGrath who has suffered a succession of knocks, mainly impact, since signing for Latics in the summer of 2008.
