Pawel Abbott rescued a point for Latics with a last-minute penalty against Wycombe at Boundary Park.

Latics were awarded a spot kick when central defender Alan Bennett handled a shot from Abbott who obliged from the spot with his 10th goal of the season.

For much of the second half it looked as though Latics old-boy Kevin Betsy's goal, which gave Wycombe a 2-1 lead, would condemn his former club to a costly seventh home league defeat.

Betsy returned to Boundary Park to haunt his former employers as he scored a 49th minute goal to put the Chairboys ahead.

Betsy's speculative shot from 25 yards appeared little threat, but it somehow squirmed through the grasp of diving keeper Dean Brill.

It might have been even worse for Latics moments later when Stuart Beavon opened their defence, but Matt Harold shot straight at Brill.

Manager Dave Penney brought on Dean Furman for Keigan Parker in the 57th minute as Deane Smalley moved inside to partner Pawel Abbott with Danny Whitaker switched to the right wing.

That was soon followed by trainee Tom Eaves, a prolific scorer for the youth team, replacing Smalley as Latics looked to stave off a costly defeat while the third substitution saw first-year scholar Kirk Millar handed a senior debut in place of Joe Jacobson  as Latics switched to a 3-5-2 formation.

Latics rarely looked like drawing level with Abbott having their best chance, but he could only direct his shot straight at keeper Tom Heaton.

But they were handed a lifeline at the death when Bennett was judged to have handled Abbott's shot and referee Eddie Ilderton awarded a second penalty of the match.
