My name is Bethany Mannix and I have spent the last week doing work experience at Oldham Athletic. My aim is to study Business at 'A' Level and I hoped to learn a little of how a company works. I've been a big Latics fan all my life and could hardly wait to start. This blog details my experiences during the week.

For the first part of the week I helped out in the accounts department assisting to prepare the match return for the Wycombe game. Counting ticket stubs is not what I expected to be doing but this is done after every match to confirm the attendance figures.

I also got an insight into how the company accounts are produced

On Wednesday morning I interviewed Latics' rising star Kirk Millar who made his professional debut against Wycombe. Being of similar ages, I found it interesting to hear his account of the match. He found out that he was in the squad just the day before he was due to play and was very nervous when he stepped onto the pitch. The management told him to enjoy himself and he played very well. Kirk is confident that Latics will move up the table by the end of the season.

For the rest of my time at the club I helped in the We Are Latics shop, restocking and pricing merchandise and I also helped with the stock check counting hundreds of Chaddy Owls!

On Thursday I worked in the Youth Development Office and saw how the Youth Squad and Centre of Excellence is organised and run, I also helped prepare for the business audit for this department.

I have had an amazing week! It's surprising how much hard work goes on behind the scenes.

I am looking forward to tomorrows match with Brighton and will hopefully be back in the summer for some more work!!
