Sean Gregan will keep the Latics captaincy for the 2010/11 season, even though it is unlikely he will be fit enough to start Saturday's opening npower League One game at Tranmere Rovers.

Player-manager Paul Dickov has confirmed Gregan will remain captain, though Reuben Hazell will act as stand-in during any absences.

The 36-year-old Gregan is still playing catch up having missed most of pre-season through ankle/Achilles injuries.

Gregan has only played 20 minutes for the first team against Preston last Saturday and an hour for the youth team at Ashton United on Tuesday.
