Ryan Burns came to the rescue with a last-minute equaliser as Latics' youth team snatched a 1-1 draw in a friendly at Ashton United.

Burns, who scored a hat-trick in Saturday's 9-1 win against Rotherham, ran on to a fabulous pass from Greg Kidd to find the net with a clinical finish.

Latics might even have won the match as Kyle Riley had a goal ruled out moments earlier following a dubious offside decision.

Ashton took the lead in the opening period from their only chance of the half following a lucky ricochet for the home side.

In the second half, Josh Ollerenshaw made a couple of fine saves to ensure the score stayed 1-0 and substitute keeper Shaun Routledge also made a super stop after replacing Ollerenshaw.

Latics took control in the last 20 minutes and it was no surprise when they equalised.

Coach Tony Philliskirk was pleased how his side, all youngsters with the exception of Sean Gregan, competed against the Evostick League, premier division side and also the way they passed the ball.
