Paul Dickov senses a buzz about Boundary Park as Latics prepare for the start of their npower League One campaign.

The Latics player-manager has detected an upturn in spirits, both on and off the pitch.

There was a 500-plus turnout at Spindles Town Square Shopping Centre for the midweek signing session while could be as many as 2,000 Latics fans at Tranmere on Saturday.

Dickov said: "If we take that size of following to our first game, it will be fantastic.

"I have said all along if fans see a team willing to work hard and show passion, as we have done against Bolton, Wigan, Preston and Burnley pre-season, they will turn up."

Dickov added that he has also noticed a far more upbeat mood.

He continued: "There was a lot of doom and gloom around the place when I arrived.

"I want to bring back a feel-goood factor, not only in the changing room but also amongst the office staff and fans.

"It is important fans feel part of it as it is their football club. I want to make sure we are all pulling in the right direction. We are all in this together,

"I want to come in every day to see people with smiles on their faces."
