Latics' Rokib Miah has seen off hundreds of competitors to win a place on Wayne Rooney's Street Striker television series.

Nineteen-year-old Rokib (pictured right on photo) was one of a group of six from Coldhurst who took part in auditions in Manchester City Centre where they were tested on their skills.

Two other members of the Kickz project Jabed Rokib (17) and Anwar Miah (19) are also striving for the Street Striker prize having succeeded in auditions staged in Birmingham.

In the case of Rokib, he progressed through the Kickz project and then as a community programme volunteer to landing a full-time job on Latics Community Scheme's coaching staff

Oldham Street Striker Rokib said: "I'm really excited and it has been good run. I've enjoyed every minute of it, and hopefully I am going to go all the way."

Sky 1 will have a film crew present at the Kickz session at Coldhurst on Tuesday to film Rokib in action whilst he is at work. He will then be required to do further filming at a secret location with Manchester United and England star Rooney.

James Mwale, Latics' Kickz and Inclusion Co-ordinator, added: "I was very proud to hear from the lads that Rokib had made it through to the next stage.

"I know the others were disappointed in not making it in Manchester, but they showed great determination to then go to Birmingham and finally succeed.

"It's a pleasure to have seen Rokib's progression from a participant through to being a valued member of staff. He's truly an inspiration to his peers."
