Latics could have up to six players making their debuts in tomorrow's opening npower League One match at Tranmere Rovers.

Sunderland pair Jean Yves M'voto and Oumare Tounkare, Ritchie Jones, Warren Feeney, Dean Kelly, and Jason Jarrett are all named in a 20-man squad which will travel to Prenton Park.

In the case of Jarrett, however, it could be a second debut having had a loan spell from Preston in 2007/08.

There is no place in the squad for player-manager Paul Dickov who has decided he has sufficient firepower in his side without his own services.

Dickov has again reiterated that good pre-season performances and results count for nothing as tomorrow is when the action starts for real.

The player-manager expects a battle against a Tranmere team which was involved in a great escape against relegation last season.

They picked up seven points from a possible nine in their last three games securing their League One status on a nerve-jangling final day of the season.

Dickov said: "Tranmere will certainly be up for the game and manager Les Parry is already describing it as their biggest game of the season with possibly also their biggest crowd.

"It will not be easy and never has been as I know from my playing days.

"Les has been working hard to turn things round and has a big, strong side which will make it hard for us."

Dickov added it is not about Tranmere, however, but how his side performs on the day.

He continued: "It is about what we do. If we are at it and get on the front foot, work hard and back each other up, we are a half-decent team. It we don't do those things, that is when we struggle.

"It is my job to ensure that doesn't happen, not only in matches, but every day in training."
