New-loan signing Oumare Tounkara has relived the joy of scoring his first goal in English football.

The French striker, borrowed from Sunderland for the season, found the net in yesterday's 3-0 home win against Notts County.

It was no ordinary goal, a spectacular shot on the run from a tight angle which gave Latics the cushion of a 2-0 advantage.

Tounkara said: "I am so happy and it is important for me to score my first goal.

"I saw the keeper off his line and thought I would try a shot and luckily it went in.

"It was important as it put us 2-0 ahead and it was nice to celebrate with the fans."

Apart from the goal, Tounkara also provided the assist for Kieran Lee who scored the the third for Latics.

Tounkara, who played previously for French second division side CS Sedan, says he is enjoying his loan spell at Boundary Park.

He explained: "I am very happy here with the manager and the players. There is a great spirit.

"I hope it is the first of many goals which will help Oldham have a good season."
