SHREWS REJECT FREE ADMISSION

Posted on: Tue 17 Aug 2010
Latics' proposal to let fans into Boundary Park for free for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie later this month has been rejected by Shrewsbury.

The Shrews, who are entitled to a share of the gate on Tuesday, August 31st, did not want to play ball as they would have been left out of pocket after they had paid their travel expenses.

Latics have now suggested to the Shropshire side that admission prices for the game ought to be reduced to £5 for adults, £2 for pensioners and under-16s free.

Chief Executive Alan Hardy explained: "We are conscious of the financial strain of having three home games in eight days and these are tough times for our supporters.

"As the Shrewsbury game comes in-between the home league games against Yeovil and Bristol Rovers, we thought it would be an opportunity to give fans free admission.

"Shrewsbury rejected our proposal, even though it would have given their own fans free entry to Boundary Park."
