GERRARD'S TROPHY DILEMMA

Posted on: Wed 18 Aug 2010
Paul Gerrard admits Latics drawing Shrewsbury in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy has left him in a dilemma.

The reason is that Gerrard in part time goalkeeping coach at both clubs.

"I couldn't believe it when the draw was made. We could have been paired with anybody, but sod's law dictated it was Shrewsbury," he explained.

Gerrard spends two days at each club, but matchdays with Latics.

He said: "I will have to speak to managers Paul Dickov and Graham Turner about the situation.

"Obviously there is a conflict of interest and perhaps the best step will be to step aside and sit in the stand that night."

Gerrard, having viewed both teams from close quarters, believes it will be a cracking contest at Boundary Park on Tuesday, August 31st.

He said: "Just as Latics have a 100-per-cent record in League One, so do Shrewsbury in League Two.

"Both teams like to pass the ball and play good football and, from a neutral's point of view, it ought to be a really good game."
