A decision has been made on a proposed land exchange involving a site to the north of the Lancaster Club - and to the south of Lower Memorial Park - which belongs to a charitable trust.

A sub-committee of Oldham Council's Cabinet delivered its decision at a public meeting today (August 25).

The group, known as the Failsworth Trust Committee, has full delegated powers on the matter.

Members decided that two areas of land were most suitable for a potential exchange. These are located at Medlock Vale/Vale Lane and Warwick Road/land to the rear of Leicester Road.

Elaine McLean, Executive Director for Economy, Places and Skills, said: "The sub-committee members considered that this was the most effective way of achieving the continuing purpose of providing public recreational facilities in Failsworth - whilst also protecting and enhancing the value of the Trust's assets."

"An application will next be sent to the Charity Commission outlining the results of the recent public consultations that have taken place, and the Trustees' decision.

"The Charity Commission will then consider this before making a decision on whether it will agree to transfer the trust status onto the sites at Medlock Vale and Warwick Road.
