Jason Jarrett views his move from midfield to the centre of defence as a permanent switch.

What began as a temporary move pre-season due to injuries has proved anything but that for Jarrett.

The 29-year-old Jarrett and Reuben Hazell have formed an effective partnership leaving new-loan signing Jean Yves M'voto and Sean Gregan on the sidelines.

Jarrett conceded: "It isn't something I expected, but the manager must have seen something in me to play at the back.

"I must admit I was wary, but I have enjoyed playing alongside Reuben and it has worked out well.

"I now regard myself as a centre back and not a midfielder."

The partnership will be broken this weekend, however, following Jarrett's unfortunate sending off at Charlton last Saturday.

"I was disappointed as most people who have seen it didn't regard it as a foul never mind a booking. If anything it was a foul on me, but you have to take these things on the chin," he explained.

Jarrett signed a contract until January following a successful pre-season trial.

He added he is settled having earlier enjoyed a loan spell from Preston in 2007/08 and would be happy to extend his stay into 2011.

Jarrett also pointed out he has rediscovered his passion for football having admitted he fell out of love with the game which was the reason he took an extended break last season.

He said: "My career did not pan out the way I wanted and I let things get to me.

"I needed time, but fortunately it has worked out. I have been lucky to get back into football because there are a lot of players who are out of work."
