YEOVIL MANAGER SKIVERTON SEES RED OVER KALALA SENDING OFF

Posted on: Fri 27 Aug 2010

Former Latics player J P Kalala has been handed a warning over his poor disciplinary record by tomorrow's opponents Yeovil.

The Congolese international, who returns tomorrow after a one-match ban, incurred the wrath of Glovers manager Terry Skiverton following his dismissal against Bristol Rovers.

Kalala, who was sent off for two yellow cards, had the worst disciplinary record in the Football League last season with 14 bookings and one dismissal.

He said: "The manager was not best pleased with my sending off and made his point and opinion loudly enough.

"I have to try and be more careful with my tackles, though I cannot guarantee I will pick up less yellow cards.

"I have to focus on playing and try not to let it get into my head not to booked because that will only make matters worse."

Kalala, a Latics player between 2007/09, is looking forward to returning to Boundary Park, though he says he will be treating the game no different to any other.

Stefan Stam, another ex-Latics player, will also be returning though he has yet to play this season and looks set for another place on the bench.

Kalala is not too disheartened by Yeovil's start to the season, even though they have not won since the opening day of the season when they beat Leyton Orient.

They have since lost to Bristol Rovers and Hartlepool in the league and against Crystal Palace in the Carling Cup.

"We have had three good performances and one bad and were unlucky to lose a couple of the games," explained Kalala.

There has been major close-season changes on the playing front at Yeovil with 11 players signed and eight leaving.

Kalala believes Yeovil are stronger at the back, a weakness last season, following the captures of Paul Huntington (Stockport) and Adam Virgo (Brighton) and loan keeper John Sullivan (Millwall).

He added elsewhere it is a younger squad which can have its problems in terms of naivety.

The other signings have included loan captures Luke Freeman and Cameron Stewart from Arsenal and Manchester United respectively.

Striker Freeman (18) became one of the youngest players to appear in the FA Cup aged 15 years and 233 days for Gillingham agains Barnet. He is a former England under-16 and 17 player.

Midfield-man Stewart is an England under-19 international and a player highly regarded at Old Trafford.

Yeovil have also signed the likes of striker Andy Williams from Bristol Rovers and former Arsenal trainee Luke Ayling as Skiverton has assembled a new-look team.

Of the eight players to leave, they included former Latics defender Terrell Forbes, Aaron Davies, Scott Murray and Gavin Tomlin who scored against Latics in the penultimate match of last season.
