Latics will play French triallist Julian Cherel in their reserve side which tonight plays Manchester United at Stalybridge in the Manchester Senior Cup, kick off 7.30pm.

The 27-year-old central defender ironically played against Latics last season for Hartlepool during a short spell at the North East club.

Cherel has played for French clubs Caen and Mondeville.

United are expected to include several senior players and there are reports circulating that Rio Ferdinand could be one of them.

Admission tonight is £4 for adults and £2 for pensioners and children.
