Sean Gregan wins his first senior call up of the campaign for Latics' home npower League One game tomorrow against Bristol Rovers.
The 36-year-old central defender, who missed most of pre-season through injury, replaces Reuben Hazell who has been ruled out through a thigh strain.
Gregan will be battling against Jason Jarrett, who has recovered from a virus, Jean Yves M'voto and Rod McDonald for one of the two central-defensive spots.
Left-back Joe Jacobson, who is back following a lengthy injury lay off, also wins a call up on the back of two impressive displays for the reserves.
And in the absence of Warren Feeney and Kirk Millar, both away on international duty, player-manager Paul Dickov names himself in the squad for the first time for a competitive match.
Ritchie Jones, absent in midweek due to a tight hamstring, has recovered and is named in Dickov's squad of 20 players.
Squad: Brill, M'voto, Jacobson, Holdsworth, Jones, Smalley, Kelly, Jarrett, Furman, Gregan, Taylor, Lee, Stephens, Black, Dikaba, Bembo, Gerrard, Dickov, McDonald, Tounkara.
